What Does the Bible Say About Helping the Poor?
Should We Help The Poor
The Bible states clearly that we should help the poor. It is not an option to help the poor, it is a command! God calls on us and instructs us in every area of our life including giving to the needy.
"For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land."
Deuteronomy 15:11

Jesus Rewards Those Who Help The Poor
Proverbs 19:17 proclaims "He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD and that which he hath given will he pay him again."
Therefore when we give to the poor we are technically giving to God!
Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew 26:11
" For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always."
